Open Question: whats the diff. between gas shocks with elec. adjustable suspension vs air shocks with elec. adjus shocks?

I have a 99 Cadillac STS and I was told that I need new rear shocks. the factory shocks are air and very expensive. im trying to beat the cost and find a way to get this fixed without spending a lot of money but still get a nice ride. what I found for half the price are some shocks that are gas but still elec adjustable. the factory shocks that are on my car now are air elec adjustable. what type of diifference in ride between the two?...
